  • Dear Brooke,

Hello and welcome to a new, streamlined version of The CEDRIC Centre newsletter, The Genuine Article.

The web version will continue to be available via our website, but now you can look forward to monthly news and notes with a selection of our best articles!

    Kudos to Dove

A survey for Dove moisturizer found two-thirds of UK women feel depressed about their figures, and have low body confidence as a result of unrealistic advertising.

In the poll, women rated Renee Zellweger in her more curvy guise as Bridget Jones as their healthiest celebrity role model - but the slimmed down version, when she starred as Roxie Hart, only came in at number eight.

So Dove responded by asking women of different shapes and sizes to appear in fantastic new ads that depict real women in all their natural, untouched glory. The new ads will be shown all over the UK and already the response is overwhelming.

With so many unrealistic and unattainable images of beauty that women are bombarded with daily, it's nice to know that company's are finally getting the message that real beauty comes in all sizes, shapes, colors, and abilities!

    Protect Your Teeth
According to the Academy of General Dentistry, dentists can tell if someone purges by the signs of wear on the inside of the upper front teeth. Acid from the stomach causes tooth enamel to be sensitive, thin, and to chip over time.

Dentists suggest patients speak to their dentists about being fitted with mouth shields and learning about proper rinsing after an episode of purging to reduce acid damage during the recovery process of bulimia, or if you are actively bulimic.

To keep your teeth healthy, the following steps will also help neutralize the stomach acids and reduce their effect on your teeth:

    1. Immediately rinse with soda water (bicarbonate). Or, use a sugar-free mouth rinse...

    Book Review
The Mommy Myth, written by Susan Douglas and Mereideth Micheals

Do you find it hard to believe that a celebrity mom like Cindy Crawford has two hours a day for yoga and two small children, when you can't even seem to find the time for a shower? Well, you're definitely not alone, The Mommy Myth blows the lid off all our beliefs about what it means to be a good mom today, including poking fun at the new breed of celebrity super moms. Their whitewashed versions of motherhood offer a standard of parenting as unattainable as thier looks, and unfortunately, is one that millions of mothers unfairly compare themselves to on a regular basis.

Douglas and Micheals provide rock solid research into daycare and dispel all the hot air around working mothers, and the impact day care has on thier children. It turns out that despite all the alarmist fears on this hot topic, day care actually improves cognitive and social skills in children.

Another great reaosn to read this book is the discussion on National Day Care. Many women need/ and or want to work outside of the home, but can't find good, affordable day care in thier area. In the Mommy Myth, examples from Europe are used to demonstrate that National Day Care is a a solution that works and pays for itself with healthier, happier, safer, and more productive families. Not mention, moms.
