I am so excited to let those of your readers who live in our vicinity know that Deb began the first of 6 yoga classes last Tuesday to a full house. I received e-mails and phone calls the next day from many of the participants speaking to their enjoyment of the class; that they felt happier than they had in a long time; that they felt so relaxed and connected peacefully to their bodies. It was wonderful to hear. It can be so hard to find the time and the safety to stop and be present with yourself when you've been using food to cope for so long and feeling so at war with your body. Deb's yoga is such a blessing to those of us in this fear/avoidance state. She's so gentle and peaceful herself and every movement is stated as a gentle invitation to explore your body and how it feels to move it this way and that. I call Deb's classes a 1 1/2 hour meditation and many participants in our Tuesday night class said they felt exactly the same way. So, CEDRIC yoga is not for the yoga body - it's for every body. Deb will be offering another Tuesday night set in 6 weeks time, I'll keep you posted on that - she has also offered to run a Wednesday morning one (11 - 12:30) for those who are interested. So, if you'd like to explore yoga with Deb let us know. You can e-mail me @ mmorand@islandnet.com.
The quotes for this week come from an absolute fave of mine: Byron Katie and "Loving What Is" I can only find three kinds of business in the universe: mine, yours, and God's. (For me the word God means "reality." Reality is God because it rules. Anything that's out of my control, your control and everyone else's control - I call that God's business.) If you are living your life and I am mentally living your life (thinking you should do this or that) who is here living mine? We're both over there. Being mentally in your business keeps me from being present in my own. I am separate from myself, wondering why my life doesn't work. No one has ever been able to control his thinking, although many people may tell the story of how they have. I don't let go of my thoughts - I meet them with understanding. Then they let go of me.
Hey there, I've been learning a tonne about blogging. I wonder if you members of our CEDRIC Community would like to support me in creating a blog that is going to be what you need it to be in terms of a tool to express your experiences of recovery, and to receive support in a safe, community environment. If you're willing to offer your 2 cents I welcome it. If you have any thoughts about the guidelines that would be important to you in feeling safe sharing your thoughts, feelings and experiences please do share them with me. What kinds of things would make you want to share your ups and downs; your experiences with the tools you're learning as part of this process; and offer your support to others in various stages of healing? Now's the time to get your needs and thoughts out there. Blogging
itself is very easy in terms of how to sign on, how to submit a post, how
to respond etc. You don't have to come up with a whole policy or vision, just share any thought(s) that arise(s) and I'll put them all together to create our guidelines and mission statement. This is a unique experience for you to be a part of the creation of a worldwide forum for sharing, support and discussion of the experience of letting go of using food to cope and building a life that is filled with passion and vitality. So, get your thoughts out there. Send any ideas to mmorand@islandnet.com; remember there's no such thing as a bad idea!
Hello Ladies and Gentlemen! I have a request for you for this week's tools for recovery: This week, challenge yourself to ask yourself once a day "Am I using food to cope?" (ie. Am I wanting to eat when I'm not hungry? Am I eating and I'm not hungry? Am I not allowing myself to eat when I know my body needs nourishing?) If the answer is yes, ask yourself "Would I be willing to take a moment right now and identify what might be going on in my life to trigger me to use food to cope?" If the answer is yes, do so! The previous three week's of The Genuine Article will show you how to proceed from there. If the answer is no, here comes my request: e-mail me the excuse/reason/story that comes up in you to support your desire/choice to not look deeper into your use of food as a coping strategy at that time. Send me the objections that arise within you and I will speak directly to them (anonymously) in the next few weeks. If you are resistant to sharing that with me ask yourself this "What do I think would happen if Michelle were able to offer me a solution to this resistance?" Is there any part of you that's a little scared of being in the position to truly choose not to use food to cope? If so, write down your objection and look for the all or nothing thinking in the story you are telling yourself about what will happen if you overcome your resistance to looking deeper than food and body image. I am excited to hear from you and to work directly with you to attend
to your use of food to cope. Love Michelle
