Anxiety

An estimated 19 million adult Americans suffer from anxiety disorders. And since anxiety disorders are the most common illnesses affecting both children and adults, it is often a concern during recovery from disordered eating.

There are several different categories for anxiety: panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, social phobia, specific phobias, and generalized anxiety disorder. They all serve a common purpose - to keep the person trapped in negative patterns that help them avoid underlying issues in their lives.

It is also important to note that nothing in the world will create a need for food for comfort and distance from feelings like the feeling of anxiety. Even if you don't have an anxiety disorder you may struggle with frequent feelings of unease and what I call "the permeating level of anxiety." This is the feeling of anxiousness that is always present, a constant buzz of disease, the anticipation of trouble or distress that keeps us from ever feeling truly peaceful and at ease. This isn't the way life is supposed to be. You may have never known anything different, but you can.

Anxiety disorder is highly treatable and many clients find that it naturally lessens as they address issues in their lives; for others a more concentrated approach is required. At the CEDRIC Centre, we have qualified counsellors that can help you overcome anxiety permanently.
