Mindfulness and Meditation Practice

Each of our counselors practices Mindfulness and Meditation in their daily lives.  We value this practice because it allows us to slow down the pace of our thoughts and of our reactions to daily events thus giving us time to choose a new way to respond or to simply observe.

Because we value this practice so highly we encourage our clients to make mindfulness and meditation a part of their daily self-care routine.

Mindfulness and Meditation does not have to be attached to any religious faith or philosophy and at the CEDRIC Centre we do not insist on any particular form of practice.  We simply engage you in discussion about what your needs are and what suits you best in terms of your personality, your belief system and faith.  Then we engage in a series of sessions (usually 5, ½ hour sessions) to support you in the learning of this new skill in a way that suits you as an individual.

In my opinion, being able to slow our reaction and our automatic thinking down enough to be able to fully see what is happening in that moment and to be able to make a new and different choice from the old, harmful ways of coping, is not only important it is fundamental to successful long term change.

Everyone who comes for an intensive healing plan learns some form of mindfulness practice.  Our individual and group clients get this practice to through their sessions.  It is one of your most valuable assets on your journey to freedom from food as a coping strategy.
